American Goulash
Ingredients
- 2 lbs lean ground beef
- 1 large onion diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 cups water
- 1 T beef base or bouillon
- 2 (15 oz cans) tomato sauce
- 2 (15 oz cans) petite diced tomatoes
- 3 bay leaves
- 3 T soy sauce
- 1 T Italian Seasoning
- salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tsp paprika
- 2 cups elbow macaroni noodles, uncooked
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
- Parsley, fresh or dried to sprinkle on top
Directions
- Brown beef in a large stockpot or skillet. Remove from pan and drain. Leave about 1-2 tablespoons grease in the pan.
- Add diced onion and garlic to pan and cook for 5 minutes over medium heat or until tender.
- Return beef to pot. Add water, beef base, tomatoes, tomato sauce, soy sauce, bay leaves, salt and pepper, Italian seasoning and paprika. Stir together.
- Bring to a boil, cover, reduce heat to low and let simmer for 20 minutes.
- Stir in noodles, cover and simmer 15 – 20 minutes or until pasta is al dente. Stir occasionally to prevent noodles from sticking.
- Just before serving, stir in cheese. Serve garnished with parsley.
